fritz, 2001 hand-dyed LiteBrite pegs on black velvet over lightbox 38 x 28"
Steve DeFrank was trained as a painter at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and the School of Visual Arts in New York. In painting he works with casein (milk-based, extremely difficult to work with I hear) and for the past eight years or so he's been working in lite brite. Agnes Scott is either getting the one above or its companion piece (hans) for the Hello, Liberty! opening on the 23rd in the Dalton Gallery, and senior studio art & art history majors are giving four-minute talks on the artists. Stressin', but excited. I love his work, he was my first pick. His paintings are gorgeous as well, and I get to interview him this week, and from what I hear he's a charmer. Ba-da!

In case you didn't see elsewhere:
( another ) That's all I got. 6 more to do before the fifth. 16 separate screens in total, not to mention all the tediousness of monoprinting.
